This free event, presented at two historic DC buildings, celebrates the social power of local music and poetry. On April 2, 2019 (Marvin Gaye’s 80th Birthday), the US Postal Service released its new stamp honoring Marvin Gaye, DC native son and international music legend. Join us for a day of activities, discussion, and performances that explore DC’s rich music history—its legacies and contemporary resonances.

A collaborative effort undertaken by Smithsonian Folklife Smithsonian National Postal Museum Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum Charles Sumner School Museum & Archives and Head-Roc‘ s “Chocolate City Rocks!”
